DWR is a functional coating applied to the outer surface of a fabric to prevent it from absorbing moisture. Rather than relying on a solid waterproof layer, DWR alters the surface tension of the fabric so that water beads up and rolls off instead of soaking through the outer layer—a process known as "wetting out." This maintains the material’s natural breathability, lightweight feel, and quick-drying properties during exposure to light rain and moisture.
